Moved to tears at the Basilica of St. John Lateran

So how do you "top" celebrating Mass in a place where our ancient brothers and sisters celebrated the Eucharist, were martyred and buried (yesterday's post on Mass in the Catacombs). How about Mass in the Pope's Cathedral at the altar where the relics from Jesus' last supper are?

Few times have I been moved to tears, had my voice choke up as I did today during the consecration realizing I was standing "in persona Christi", uttering His words of consecration changing bread and wine into His Body and Blood with the table from that First Eucharist where Christ did the same with his first 12 priests.

I'm left with one simple prayer: Thank You Jesus for the gift of the priesthood you have so generously shared with me.

It was one of the must-sees on my trip to Rome last Christmas. Just remember how imposing the front of it looked and the beautiful paintings inside. Went with my wife and a friend on a Rick Steves tour. Granted, not the time or place but the Church actually has a wonderful market out front on Saturdays where they sell delicious fruits, candies (torrone, and clothing.
